ORT UK is the UK arm of World ORT, the world’s largest Jewish education and training charity.

Started in 1880, World ORT is currently operating in 37 countries and helping 300,000 students around the world. Specialising in technology, ORT helps vulnerable communities to become self-sufficient by educating and training their members in the skills they need for life.

ORT UK is a registered charity (No. 1105254) supporting ORT projects around the world. We also educate British donors about ORT and its work, while initiating and managing ORT programmes within the UK.

ORT-JUMP is ORT UK's flagship domestic project. A mentoring programme for students in their first year of sixth form (Year 12), ORT-JUMP is designed to help bridge the gap between school and the workplace. Established in 2009 by Julia Alberga, with support from World ORT, ORT-JUMP is now working with over 250 students across 11 schools. Mentors from a wide range of industries, meet with their mentees five times over the duration of the academic year, to discuss topics such as qualifications and career paths, working hours, essential skills and training. Many of our students find work experience and acceptance onto corporate schemes through the programme.

Our new Bar/Bat Mitzvah twinning programme sees young people from Muswell Hill United Synagogue twinned with their peers in Vilnius and Kiev. The programme encourages a commitment to the global Jewish community, as well as enabling participants to connect with their Jewish identity. Families are also encouraged to explore their own history.

2016 saw the launch of the Professional Women's Network (PWN), which brings together women from different professional backgrounds and provides a space for networking. We also provide opportunities to hear guest speakers, with past subjects including, 'What the World of Business can Learn from Religion' and 'Breaking the Glass Ceiling - Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace.'

In the words of Olga who is studying computer science and physics, "I want to be a computer programmer in the future. There were hardly any computers in the school two years ago but now in our new science lab the teachers help me achieve my dreams. I came from a difficult family background and being in the boarding school has helped me to turn my life around and focus on my studies. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my friends at this school."
  • Hodaya and Yasmin both dream of becoming doctors. Luckily, they're studying at the World ORT Kadima Mada Kfar Silver school near Ashkelon, Israel, which thanks to YOUR support, has brand new chemistry labs. No wonder it's their favourite lesson! "When we first came, the paint was coming off the walls and chairs were broken. The new classrooms help us learn better, because the teachers have better facilities and the room is more comfortable, making it easier to concentrate in class." It's all part of our long-term project to renovate the entire campus. http://ortuk.org/projects/current/educating-israels-most-vulnerable-students
