Comedian and writer David Baddiel invited us to join him for an entertaining yet thought-provoking chat with actress Tracy-Ann Oberman, as part of the ORT UK centenary celebrations.
Over 1000 households registered for the event, which saw David regale stories of his orthodox school days, explain why he identifies as ‘Jew’ on Twitter (@Baddiel) and discuss his encounters with antisemitism.
In their frank and honest chat, David revealed his surprise at how less vocal Jewish celebrities think him ‘brave,’ for being open about his roots and publicly denouncing anti-Jewish racism, admitting it stems from his innate compulsion to tell the truth!
He also had us in hysterics recounting Mr Cohen from North West London Jewish Day School’s final words of advice and the secret ingredient of kosher blue custard.
The evening included the launch of ORT UK’s ‘There Then, Here Now’ campaign, with videos exploring the charity’s heritage, the ‘Berlin Boys’ saved by ORT in 1939 and the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme.
