The ORT NXT Graduation

14.02.23

Our first ever NXT Lay Leadership Programme drew to a close last night, as our participants gathered for a graduation evening at Wembley Stadium.

The programme, which consisted of a series of speaker events and workshops throughout the year, was designed to educate and inspire members on their journey to becoming Jewish community leaders. The highlight of the programme was a mission to Israel, where the cohort visited ORT schools and saw for themselves how the organisation makes an Impact Through Education.

Guest speakers at the NXT Graduation included Jewish educator, Miriam Lorie, who is the first orthodox woman appointed to a rabbinical role in the UK. Through Torah excerpts, Miriam demonstrated how Judaism has been encouraging innovation since biblical times.

We also heard from the ORT JUMP Programme founder and PaJeS, Mental Health and Wellbeing Project Manager, Julia Alberga, who was interviewed by ORT UK Chair, Annette Kurer. Julia shared her wisdom gained from creating ORT UK’s flagship programme and watching it flourish 14 years on.

In addition, ORT UK’s Vice President and former trustee, Mark Mishon, addressed the group about his 40 years of commitment to the organisation and shared ways in which participants can continue their involvement with ORT through ‘education, motivation and appreciation.’

NXT participant, Jasmin Mojrenfeld-Polite, also spoke about her experience on the programme and hopes for the future and the entire cohort received a leadership book of their choosing.

We can’t wait to witness the innovative ways in which our graduates continue to support ORT UK and contribute to the growth and engagement of the wider Jewish community.
