ORT IN ISRAEL

In 2007 ORT established World ORT Kadima Mada (WOKM).

Together with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry for the Development of the Periphery, Negev and Galilee, WOKM’s aim is to increase opportunities and reduce the socio-economic gaps in the northern and southern periphery with a focus on science and technology.

The following are examples of World ORT Kadima Mada programmes:

YOUniversity / Ofek Centres of Excellence – After-school science programmes with more than 5,000 young people enrolled at eight locations in the Negev, the Galilee and Jerusalem. Serving a range of different communities including the Arab Israeli and ultra-Orthodox sectors, this project offers experiential learning to help disadvantaged students take Bagrut level science classes.

Schools and Youth Villages – Over 3,000 students are supported at seven high schools, including three residential youth villages in the WOKM educational network. Activities across the country also support an additional 30,000 students through through 32 affiliated schools in municipalities on the socio-economic and geographic periphery of Israel.

Anières Elite Academy – An elite scholarship programme for Israeli and international students focussing on engineering and technology. From 2013-2030 approximately 600 young people are expected to graduate from this programme and eventually provide the Israeli job market with engineers.

Derech – This partnership with the Kirsh Foundation provides Charedi students in 12 yeshivot in locations such as Bnei Brak, Jerusalem and Petach Tikva with vocational training in order to upskill them for future employment.

  • In school, we learn to accept each other and be tolerant and confident and not lose hope.  It’s more than a school:  It’s an open door to our future life.
