ORT returned to the countries of the Former Soviet Union following the fall of Communism in 1991. In the predominantly-Muslim Republic of Tatarstan, ORT began to operate in 1999, with the full support and backing of the local government and administration.
ORT Kazan grew into the primary Jewish school in the state, catering for nearly 500 Jewish children. The school combines the use of ICT both into a specific curriculum and into the teaching of other subjects such as Hebrew and Jewish studies.
ORT UK provided up-to-date facilities for the ORT Kazan School, allowing it to maintain its high standards of teaching and to attract new Jewish students.
This project was generously supported by ORT UK and the Dorset Foundation.
