ORT Mexico Technology Centre, 2006-2008

Mexico has 12 Jewish Secondary Schools, none of which had the up-to-date IT facilities necessary to teach their students the technical and vocational skills demanded by the modern workplace.

ORT Mexico, with the help of international ORT donors including British ORT, set about dealing with this issue by establishing a media centre which would provide training in the fields of communications and digital media – two of Mexico’s fastest growing industries, to all 12 schools as well as adults wishing to up-skill in the areas of audio, video and digital production.

The completed centre included specialist facilities for Radio, Audio, Graphic and Web Design, Digital Photography, a TV Studio area and a Control Room, two Computer Classrooms, Digital Library, Auditorium and a classroom with computers for general use. It is accredited by the Ministry of Labour and of Education as the provider of courses in these subjects and helps to fund its expenses by offering paid courses for local adults, and by renting out its facilities to the country’s leading radio and TV production companies.

Aim:
To increase employment opportunities and the earning potential for the Mexico City Jewish Community by training young Jews in communication and digital media — two of Mexico's fastest growing industries.
