Argentina's Jewish community is the largest in South America and the seventh largest in the world. ORT educates over 7,300 full and part-time Jewish students in Buenos Aires, or more than 80% of children attending a Jewish high school.
Both of ORT's Schools in Buenos Aires are very highly regarded and, as a result, very much over-subscribed. With very few alternative places available in Jewish secondary schools, parents unable to secure a place for their child at the ORT schools were forced to send them to non-Jewish schools.
This project aimed to make use of a rare opportunity to purchase a plot of land next to one of the ORT schools in order to expand the campus. The new site would house a 9-storied building which would provide ORT Argentina with desperately-needed new facilities, and room for another 750 students.
ORT UK provided some funding to help ORT Argentina to purchase this land.
