Recruitment of Trustees – ORT UK

Posted on Wednesday 19th August 2015

ORT UK is the UK arm of World ORT, the world’s largest Jewish education and training charity. Founded in St Petersburg in 1880, ORT has been educating people for over 135 years with the knowledge and skills they need to gain employment and so support themselves, their families and their communities. Currently operating in 56 countries, ORT helps vulnerable communities to become self-sufficient, breaking the cycle of poverty and charitable dependence.

ORT UK supports ORT projects around the world, raising much-needed funds via events and direct fundraising. The key geographical areas of focus for ORT UK’s work are Israel and the former Soviet Union.

In addition to our vital fundraising work, ORT UK also educates British donors about ORT and its work, and we initiate and manage ORT programmes within the UK such as ORT-JUMP. Established in 2009, ORT-JUMP is a unique mentoring programme for Y12 students in Jewish schools. The programme currently runs in eight Jewish secondary schools in London, and every year hundreds of mentors in a variety of industries take part, assisting students to realize their true potential and achieve their ultimate career ambitions.

Seeking new Trustees:

We are currently seeking a number of new trustees with the skills and expertise to complement the existing Board of Trustees. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with exceptional leadership and personal qualities with strong networks and a passion for supporting and fundraising for a global educational organisation which gives young Jewish people the skills for life.

We are looking for a diverse board and seeking candidates from a variety of backgrounds and sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to help reshape and contribute to an established and respected international Jewish organisation. Since 1880, ORT has made a profound difference to millions of Jewish youth across the globe, and with your help will continue to do so for future generations.

  • Meet Daniel, Shachar and Olga from the Kfar Hassidim school. these three young Israelis will receive their education thanks to ORT and will be the next generation of computer programmers, paramedics and mechanical engineers. In the words of Olga who is studying computer science and physics, "I want to be a computer programmer in the future. There were hardly any computers in the school two years ago but now in our new science lab the teachers help me achieve my dreams. I came from a difficult family background and being in the boarding school has helped me to turn my life around and focus on my studies. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my friends at this school."
  • Hodaya and Yasmin both dream of becoming doctors. Luckily, they're studying at the World ORT Kadima Mada Kfar Silver school near Ashkelon, Israel, which thanks to YOUR support, has brand new chemistry labs. No wonder it's their favourite lesson! "When we first came, the paint was coming off the walls and chairs were broken. The new classrooms help us learn better, because the teachers have better facilities and the room is more comfortable, making it easier to concentrate in class." It's all part of our long-term project to renovate the entire campus. http://ortuk.org/projects/current/educating-israels-most-vulnerable-students
